Xan Argueta
BIO
Xan Argueta (they/them, b. 2004) is an interdisciplinary artist, photographer, and storyteller currently based in Lawrence, MA. Xan was born in Boston to two immigrant parents from El Salvador, and identifies as queer and non-binary. In their work they use a blend of photography, mixed media, and written narratives.
Statement
In this series, I use photography to explore the mix of emotions that humans may face as they take a pause in their day to contemplate. This body of work is a representation of my belief in meditation as a means to replenish the spirit. I took inspiration from the various practices that my friends and I do to take a minute of mindfulness. Our methods may be different, but we still respect and learn from one another. Through these photographs I hope to convey that meditation can be accomplished by yourself, with friends, or even a greater source like the Universe or God. I hope that these pictures remind my audience to take a moment to embrace their emotions: to reflect on both the negative and positive. A reminder to let their spirit grow.
